Performance and Sound Art Installation (2023)

Panopticon. Reproachable Tower-Person. is a sound installation that explores the prison structure designed by Jeremy Bentham. Self-surveillance imposed by uncertainty. Believing himself observed, Tomás observes himself. The cycle repeats.
Tomás’s place is a tower, but the hierarchy is lost; the tower moves, or is moved; Tomás’s role is ambiguous, and with each repetition, his intention and appearance shift.
There it stares: confusion and impatience on the faces of Strangers.
They set off in a single file toward the impossible held within the silence that follows a brief question: Is that all?
Three walls and a steel mirror.
The work was first presented at Serralves em Festa (2023, Porto, PT)

Mr. The Mayor confessed to me that the Strangers set out on the Path with their reason still intact, yet they now doubt whether it will actually be of any use to them.
